It would be a bonus if my husband and I would happily chow down on the meals as well, but not necessary.
Can anyone recommend any recipes or websites?
Many thanks!
I'd say, limit the nuggets and luncheables. They are loaded with preservitives, and chemicals, that have been undoubtedly linked to the rise of ADHD/ADD in children. Lunch doesn't have to be "typical".... it just needs to be balanced.... Graham crackers and peanut butter, celery and peanut butter (raisins on them as well if you want), carrots and other veggies with dip, crackers and cream cheese...... take a look at the food pyramid, and become familiar with a "balanced" meal.... your baby doesn't have to have "soup and sandwich" for lunch nessecarily.... just a variety of nibbles, that whack out all the food groups... hope this works for ya! oh yeah.... and most of these things can be prepared, and kept in ziplocs for up to a week... so you really only need to prepare them twice a week or so....
theres this book by jessica sienfield thats called 'deceptively delicious" and I recently started cooking from it I really love all the recipies because they are both kid and adult friendly, they are super healthy, using veggies everywhere, and are also packable!! try it out.....it doesn't matter if you aren't much of a cook all you do is follow the directions......its way better quality food than you will ever get your family will love the taste and with a little extra planning can be toatlly convient.
The website wholesometoddlerfood.com has some good recipe. I suggest making big batches of homemade chicken nuggets, pancakes, and cheese sauce for pasta. Just freeze them in freezer bags and warm them up for lunches. They are much healthier than the ones you buy at the store and are great for a quick lunch. I also make...
-quesadilla (whole wheat tortilla, cheese, spinach)
-PBJ or PB with honey
-Leftovers from the night before
-Scrambled eggs and toast
-Baked sweet potato fries
-whole wheat egg noodles with butter, Parmesan cheese, and asparagus
for when we are on the go, i like the lunchables jrs. They have cheese, ham, and crackers.
my son's typical lunch is a sandwich [pb&j, cheese, ham, etc.], grapes or one of those individual fruit cups/applesauce.
Also, if you are feeling "blah", stock up on frozen chicken nuggets! My son LOVES them, and they take less than 2 minutes to microwave.
I like the idea about lunchables for an around town not wanting them to eat Wendy's alternitive. I tend to feed my boys gerber graduate meals if I have nothing avail for them.
sandwich with meat and cheese
crackers
chips
veggies
and a cookie
