What are some healthy recipes for potatos?

i'm trying to eat more healthy but i dont really like fruits..to only veggie that i really like is potatos...any good recipes?

Here is an easy but tasty recipe: scrub one or two potatos, peel if desired and slice into french fry size pieces (thick or thin, your choice). Rinse starch off potatos, pat dry with paper towel and place in a bowl. Add one to tablespoons oil (olive oil or vegetable oil is fine) along with a dash of salt, pepper and seasonings of your choice (I like garlic powder or onion powder but you can use cayenne pepper, oregano, etc.). Toss until well coated. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees F until golden brown (about 20 minutes depending on size and number of pieces), turn once or twice to brown all sides.

If you mash them, leave some of the skin in - it's very nutricious and delicious, lol

I would recommend going to Culinary Chef at http://www.culinarychef.com for recipes and even full menus. Enjoy!

potatoes aren't the best for you... they have a lot of starch and my mom says they don't really count as a vegetable... but i don't know...

Bake and add some low fat cottage cheese. Or peel and cut into chunks, toss in some olive oil and maybe some Rosemary or other herbs you like and bake in the oven.

Potatoes are very versatile - you can cut them into chunks, toss with a small amount of olive oil and rosemary and bake them, you can chunk them and stir-fry them. Mashed potatoes are easy - use low-sodium broth instead of milk, and limit the butter (or better yet - use Yukon gold potatoes - they taste buttery). Potatoes are good in curries, or just plain old baked potatoes are good. Vary your toppings - I've used salsa, low-fat chili, marinara sauce, and of course, the old standard of sour cream (fat-free) and chives. Anything you could put on noodles, you can serve over a potato.

The other poster is right, though - potatoes are not the best for you in quantity. Try adding other vegetables to the potatoes, to get accustomed to eating them. Also, sweet potates are VERY nutritious, and can be baked or mashed just like white potatoes.

What are some good, simple and healthy recipes that can be made with tortillas?

Hey there, so I was wondering if anybody knew of any good and simple but healthy recipes that can be made with tortiallas or that involve tortillas? I have the smaller ones, they are whole wheat, and I don't know what to use them for, or what to make with them, I'm a vegetarian btw.

A really simple one my son likes are quesadillas, I just sprinkle some cheese on it and fold it over and nuke it for a few seconds to melt the cheese, he asks for them all the time.

I make these ALL the time when I have leftover tortilla shells after tacos

For a Savory snack

Ingredients

10-12 flour tortillas

vegetable oil (or spray)

spices

Directions

1Cut tortillas into 8 wedges.

2Brush or spray baking sheet with oil.

3Arrange tortilla wedges in a single layer on the baking sheet and brush or spray lightly with oil.

4Sprinkle with seasonings: salt or seasoned salt, chili powder

5Bake at 325 until crisp and lightly browned, approximately 10 minutes.

Or for a SWEET snackIngredients

10-12 flour tortillas

vegetable oil (or spray)

cinannomon suagr

Directions

1Cut tortillas into 8 wedges.

2Brush or spray baking sheet with oil.

3Arrange tortilla wedges in a single layer on the baking sheet and brush or spray lightly with oil.

4Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar

5Bake at 325 until crisp and lightly browned, approximately 10 minutes.

Roll your tortillas with a mix of Black Beans and Chickpeas, diced zucchini, onions, peppers(any veggies that you like). Roll them and place them in a sprayed casserole dish. Then, mix a can of diced tomatoes (juice included) with 1-2cloves of minced garlic, 2tsp. chili powder, or stir in a package of taco seasoning. Pour over top of tortillas, top with shredded cheese and bake in your oven at 375 for about 30 minutes. You might have to add extra tomato juice so they stay moist. These are very healthy, low in fat, and high in protein, without any meat, and simple to make. Top with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and salsa before serving.

Make a veggieTaco Salad.

http://www.tasteofhome.com/Recipes/Vegetarian-Taco-Salad

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taco_salad

Fill with lettuce, tomatoes, sliced avocados, sour cream, sliced red onions, shredded cheese, mushrooms, corn & whatever veggies you like.

Or a tortilla veggie pizza

http://www.fabulousfoods.com/recipes/main/pizza/vegpitapizza.html

You can sprinkle them with a little water or spray them with non-stick cooking spray. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on them and cut into wedges and bake until crispy. I like to chop up fruit for a fruit "salsa" to go with them. You could also do the same thing with "savory" seasonings.

Visit the Azteca website, they have lots of interesting recipes.

http://aztecafoods.com/recipes/index.html

Here are some of them

Baked Apple Puffs

Hot Corned Beef Wraps

California Veggie Melts

Mexican Pizza

Cheddar & Chicken Melts

Parmesan Ranch Wraps

Chicken Chilaquiles

Peanut Butter & Jelly Rollups

Cinnamon & Sugar Snacks

Salami Pinwheels

Double Cheese Tortilla Pizza

Steak Tacos

Fruity French Toast Tortilla Wraps

Turkey-Walnut Salad Wraps

Garlic Cheese Crisps

Vegetable Beef Wraps

Think of them as bread. Anything you can put on a sandwich, you can put into a tortilla and roll it up.

One thing I like to do is lay a piece of cheese on a tortilla and microwave until the cheese has melted, roll it up and eat. Yummm.

Put anything you enjoy eating in the tortilla and eat like taco. I also use tortillas in place of pasta in a lasagna like dish. I stack tortillas, chicken(you can leave out), tomatoes, onions. green peppers, then cheese then layer again starting with tortillas

Try some grilled veggies and cheese. A favorite of mine is leftover chicken with tomatillas, cilantro and potatos and onions with a squeeze of lime juice at the end and some salt and pepper to taste. I like it best with yellow corn tortillas.

My kids and I love to spread each tortilla with a tablespoon of apple butter (applesauce works too), diced apples and shredded cheese. Fold like a Quesadilla. Spray a pan with non-stick spray and heat both sides...maybe 1-2 min. per side. Delicious and makes a great snack.

Take some veggies like peppers and onions and put them on one shell with some cheese. Put another shell on top and fry them till the cheese fuses them together, this is an excellent meal.

You can make Pinwheels which is an appetizer.

www.allrecipes.com

You can do an ingredient search and it will bring up some recipes for you.

put some hot rice in it with pinto beans, peppers, and melted cheese its delicious!

tofu wrap! with steamed veggies and beans!!!

What are some quick healthy recipes I can eat for a snack?

As school is soon to be starting again I wanted to know of some quick and healthy recipes I can make before getting started on home work.

What would you suggest I eat/make?

I'm might also freeze some fruit and other things so that I can leave them out in the morning and they will be ready to it when I get home, what foods/recipes are healthy and freeze well for this purpose? Thanks!

Keep a big jar of dry-roasted nuts and dried fruit & Craisins.. You can even take little baggies of this with you to school. ..... I used to layer yogurt with granola or apple-cinnamon wheat germ (in about 3 layers) in parfait glasses for my daughters. I'd do it the night before, and they'd have it for breakfast.....

I like almonds & dried apricots & cranberries

peanut butter and apple slices

humus and pita triangles

hard boiled eggs (might be a little stinky)

carrots and celery sticks

granola(careful sometimes dense in calories) and yogurt

homemade popcorn

I usally have yogurt, dry cheerios, granola bar, or any type of fruit.

Sandwiches are healthy. Don't eat too much sweet stuff.

What are your favourite healthy recipes for breakfast or lunch?

Lately i've been turning into this health freak, and I don't want to eat prepackaged foods with a lot of preservatives in them. So I've been trying to find recipes for breakfast and lunch that are healthy, but there isn't so many good ones. Could you tell me your favourites?

A simple chicken salad is good - with leftover chicken, cut into cubes, then add diced celery and some mayonnaise, salt. Easy! You could also make a green salad and cut cubes of leftover cooked chicken on top of that.

As your mom would say, eat your veggies! I know vegetables may not seem like the most tasty food option for you, but they really are healthy, and if you prepare them in the right way, they can taste really good. One of my favorite veggie recipes is from Frigidaire's site at http://frigidaire.stores.yahoo.net/save.html - but go light with the hollandaise sauce, it's very tasty, but in moderation:

Sauteed Vegetables:

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive olive

1/2 medium red pepper, julienned

1/2 medium yellow pepper, julienned

1/2 medium red onion, thinly sliced

1 small zucchini, julienned

1 small yellow squash, julienned

Add olive oil, peppers and onion to a preheated skillet. Saute over medium high heat for approximately five minutes. Add remaining vegetables and cook until desired doneness, 5- 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

While vegetables are cooking, medium poach 4 large eggs.

Quick Hollandaise Sauce

1/3 cup cholesterol-free egg product

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard, regular or country style

1/4 teaspoon Worchestershire sauce (optional)

1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper (caynenne)

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, melted

Place first 5 ingredients in a small bowl. Mix with a hand mixer at the lowest speed. Slowly, add hot butter until blended.

On each plate, place 1 roasted mushroom, add 1/4 of the sauteed vegetables. Carefully slide the eggs out of their poaching cups and place on top of the vegetables. Top with 1/4 cup of the hollandaise sauce. Serve immediately.

For breakfast it's usually a smoothie with a banana, some yogurt and frozen fruit or your choice. The frozen fruit acts like the ice to you don't have to add any. Oatmeal is always a good choice but if you're like me you rarely have a chance to actually make it. So I eat a lot of cereal just without the milk. Good one are the multi grain cheerios or any of the cheerios really, frosted mini wheats, or oatmeal squares.

For lunch it's usually a Bagel sandwich. Toast the bagel add some ham and and cheese, tomato, cucumber are always good on there. Or you can do a toasted bagel with cream cheese and tomato.

Hope these help

Well one of my favs is a breakfast parfait of sorts...

I mix some healthy granola (you have to read the label to make sure that it truly is healthy), some low fat or fat free vanilla yogurt and some peaches or bananas or whatever fruit you like together in a bowl.

And sometimes if i am feeling a bit crazy i will add a sprinkle of cinnamon (especially to the banana one)

Smoked Salmon served with scrambled eggs (on toast if you like).

dont beleive Raimes. He sends same thing to everyone. And it contains with virus.

I want to start eating better and I have a cooking book but I just wanted to know what's some healthy foods/recipes you enjoy because I know there's a lot of gross and good recipes out there :).

Thanks!

This is a quick & easy favourite and on our menu once a week:

Wholemeal tortillas

Chopped Lettuce

Chopped Tomato

Light sour cream

Low salt baked beans

Burrito spice

Optional:

Grated Carrots

Grated Low fat cheddar

Chopped onion

Jalapeno chillies

Heat beans in microwave and mash up until the sauce has thickened. Throw in the burrito spice. Heat the tortillas and serve for people to make their own burritos. Easy and yum. "Normal" person I'd say would eat 2-3 burritos at a time. If I have extra I make them and put in fridge for work the next day.

Any healthy tasty and tried recipes or ideas?

I want some healthy recipes for sancks, food, desserts etc. I dont want recipes with white sugar and white flour if possible. I really need healthy recipes. Thx.

Here is a chicken recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing. Imagine that. When I found it, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who just are not sure how to tell

when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.

BAKED STUFFED CHICKEN

6-7 lb. Chicken

1 cup melted butter

1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is good.)

1 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER'S Low Fat)

Salt/pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush chicken well with melted butter, salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the

oven. Listen for the popping sounds. When the chicken's ***

blows the oven door open and the chicken flies across the room,

it's done.

And you thought I couldn't cook.........

Definitely check out http://www.highclassrecipes.com

I saw some great free healthy recipes.

I have tried this chili..and it's really good. Even my kids liked it, and my son is a die-hard bean hater. I doubled the roasted tomatoes.

Black Bean Chili:

Ingredients:

4 large poblano peppers

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (EVOO)

1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped

1 large onion, chopped

4 garlic cloves, finely chopped or grated

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

2 cans black beans (15 ounces), drained of half their liquid

2 tablespoons chili powder (a large palmful)

2 teaspoons ground cumin (about half a palmful)

1/2 teaspoon allspice (eyeball it)

1 bottle dark lager beer, such as Negro Modelo

1 can crushed fire-roasted tomatoes (15 ounce can or half a 28o ounce can)

2 cups beef or vegetable stock (use vegetable to make it vegetarian)

Hot sauce, to taste

1/2 cup sour cream, for garnish

1/2 cup chopped cilantro, for garnish

PreparationHeat broiler to high.

Char the poblanos under the broiler so their skins blacken, 7-8 minutes. Place in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let stand 10 minutes. Once the peppers have cooled enough to handle, peel and seed them, then roughly chop them up and set them aside.

Place a medium-size pot over medium-high heat with 2 tablespoons EVOO, about two turns of the pan. Add the jalapeño, onion and garlic to the pan, and cook 6-7 minutes, until the veggies are tender. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper, then add in the beer, scraping up any brown bits from the bottom of the pan. Cook a few minutes to reduce the liquid by half, then add the black beans and their liquid, the chopped poblanos, spices, crushed tomatoes and stock. Bring up to a bubble, then reduce the heat and simmer to thicken slightly, about 5 minutes. Adjust the seasoning with salt and freshly ground pepper as needed.

Serve the chili up and pass around hot sauce, sour cream, and cilantro at the table to top it with.

go get the book everyday light meals by taste of home it is great the recipes are really good and most of them a fairy simple

Here is one thing that I do when I have a sweet tooth: take some dates and slice them long ways. Insert a pecan, small piece of cheese, peanut butter, or cream cheese.

It makes a great snack, healthy and curbs my sweet tooth!

Cucumber Salad is tasty and delicious, plus its easy to make and keeps in the fridge for 3 days.

1 cucumber

1 tomato

1/2 red onion

3 basil leaves

2 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp olive oil

fresh cracked black pepper

cut the cucumber into 1/2" pieces. dice tomato and chop onion to a fine dice. snip basil leaves into ribbons (bunch them up, roll tight and snip with scissors, that's the easiest way). mix in a bowl. add olive oil and lemon juice. season with pepper. mix and let sit in the fridge for 1 hour. serve chilled. can be served with stone ground pita or blugar. Also good mixed into cous cous.

another great snack is avocado salad

1 avocado

1 bunch cilantro

2 tsp lime juice

2 cloves fresh garlic

chop avocado into cubes. chop up garlic and cilantro. mix with avacado and add lime juice. you can use this as a dip (process in blender or processor until mostly smooth) or as a topping for salads, sandwhiches or pita. also good on its own., will keep in fridge for 2 days.

a nice desert is balsamic strawberries with fresh basil

1 pt strawberries

3 tbsp balsamic vinegar

1/2 tsp brown sugar

1 bunch fresh basil

hull and slice strawberries. in a sauce pot, simmer sugar and vinegar. drizzle over berries and top with fresh basil.

and for an anytime snack that fills you up and satisfies a sweet tooth, try mashed plantains:

1 ripe plantain

1/2 tsp cinnamon

boil plantain until cooked well, remove from water. mash and add cinnamon.

for a savory version of this dish, replace cinnamon with pepper and garlic.

Healthy recipes?

Hi,

I'm 18 and live alone,I don't know how to cook except simple things(eggs)so I eat fast food a lot but I want to eat healthy food from now on ..so if you know a simply recipe plz tell me

Pasta with Spinach and Tuna

- Pasta, frozen spinach, 1 large bottle of pasta sauce and 2 cans of tuna can make you about 4-5 meals. Add in chopped garlic for better taste.

Sandwhiches

- Bread and basically anything you like in it.

Grill Fish and Mash

- Grill the fish on a non-stick pan as opposed to fried which is unhealty. And replace chips with mashed potatos. Mixed bacon bits in the potato for extra flavour

Breaded chicken Breast (good for sandwhiches, salads, meal with rice/chips)

- Chicken breast, bread crumbs, egg, flour. Slice the chicken breast into half (so that its thinner), add salt, pepper and coat with flour. Dip in beaten egg and then coat with bread crumbs and bake.

If you want the best recipes online then check out this famous website for the best eBook on how to eat healthy and it will help you cook like a chef at the same time so if you are interested check it out by typing in this address http://tinyurl.com/prggxc and I do hope this helps. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20061204083401AA3Wf4L&kid=HKdMWk38OWzQ2LoZqUzN&s=comm&date=2009-05-17+08%3A18%3A45&.crumb=

a bit of dust

Hi, I use cooks.com, or I type recipes - eating well for ideas a lot. You will be able to find some ideas that don't use a lot of ingredients and some things that you might like to try. Start out simple so as not to get discouraged. Good luck! You couldn't have picked a better time to start to change your ways. Are there any cooking classes in your area?

My hint of the night: I buy on sale when I can, and often cook enough for a family, then freeze it. Mince is the easiest: meatloaf, meatballs, crumbled mince to use in sauce.

What I do is go to one of the recipe sites and look until I find something I like and then look for the easy recipe.

A hint:

If you don't have something to put in, like mince garlic, or any garlic at all, I have noticed that it doesn't muck things up too much to leave it out.

I also live alone, like to eat well, and to some extent with a measure of health in my cooking.

I hope this gives you a little encouragement.

Go to Culinary Chef at http://www.culinarychef.com for recipes.

Salads are really easy, and so are stir frys, start by getting veggies that you like. chop them really well. Bite sized is important, unless you want to choke. Now for a good(meal) salad, mix together with small pieces of lunch meat or hot dogs(if you like them cold). Or, for a stir fry, mix with chopped pieces of chicken or fish( which you have boiled for a half hour befor), and fry untill the chicken is fully cooked. I also suggest learning t fry/bake meats... then experiment with sauces on them... good luck! =D

get a wok, with a book of instructions.

Toddler menu?

I'm trying to get some healthy ideas for feeding my two year old daughter. I'm not much of a cook and it seems all the "convienent" kid-friendly foods in the supermarket are so unhealthy (big suprise). I find myself feeding her a lot of the same things. I know she must be bored with her lunches. Just wondering if anyone knows some simple recipes that will give her some variety and are a little more nutritious.

The best thing that I found for my toddler that works great are the prepackaged meals for toddlers. They are in the baby isle usually next to the baby food. I think that Gerber makes them (I could be wrong). They are called "little entrees." She eats them whenever I am in a hurry and can't make her a meal. She loves them. They have all different kinds and they are really good for toddlers diets.

Also, I try to get her to eat healthy snacks too, but she loves sweets (my fault :) !!) So I get her the nutrisnacks that have all the vitamins in them but still have a sweet kick.

Good Luck!!

if you go to kraftfoods.com they have a part on their website for kids. that might give you some ideas that are quick and easy.

here's stuff my 3 year oild likes in additional to the ethnic foods we make:

Milk (he like with Nestle quik)

bananas

apple slices or celery stick with peanut butter

crackers and peanut butter

crackers and cheese

yogurt and go-gurts (sometimes he likes to mix in cheerios or walnuts for the crunchiness)

scrambled eggs with a slice of ham

pancakes (w/sugar-free syrup)

waffles (w/sugar-free syrup)

cinnamon roll Oatmeal from Quaker Oats

mac n cheese with teenie-tiny bits of broccoli mixed in (he doesn't notice)

chicken noodle soup (if you're worried about sodium content you can try to make your own)

cold cut sandwiches

any kind of baked or sauted chicken

rice

raviolis (the really small microwave kind aren't all that terrible)

pretzels

baby carrots with ranch dressing

homemade tacos

sandwich wraps with torillas (slice of ham, lettuce, etc.)

beans (any kind lots of good fiber and protein)

pizza bread (take a loaf of french bread, a roll, or a bagel then spread sauce and top with cheese and veggies, he loves to help make his own. put in the oven for a few minutes and as far as your kid's concerned you're a gourmet chef)

cucumbers (sliced of cut into sticks) with a little lemon juice

So glad to see a good mom worried about not putting junk into her little toddler. :o)

Did you know that this is the age to introduce foods you want her to like?

Here's a great dish:

Take a cup of lentils and boil it with 2 cups of water and a little salt until it's tender.

Take a cup of brown rice and boil with 2 cups of water and a little salt until it's tender too. Then add a half a cup of fozen peas and cook for another couple of minutes (until the peas aren't frozen anymore)

then mix the two and serve as a side to little bits of chicken breast.

It's SOOOO delicious and good for her and the rest of you too.

If you add details and ask me to, I'll come back and add a few more. ;o)

ps Please stay away from Kielbasa, hot dogs, bacon and some of the nitrate processed foods suggested above. those processed meats have so many chemical preservatives that they will increase cancer risks for children. Cooking lean meets are so easy that you can spare her the processed meats. Just sticking meat into a bit of water and putting a lid on it is all you need to cook meats.

A 2 year old can eat anything an adult eats. My kids ate small sandwiches, yogurt and fruit usually for lunch at that age.

I thought I just answer this, must be two of you out there,

But When I babysat my toddler nephew we took whatever we ate minus the oil salt an added sugar food process it to a mush and labeled it in the gerber hars. Be yams, potatoes, bananas an strawberries, bananas and peaches, Chicken beef mush everything mushhed to a mush carrot and peas,.. Not only was it cheaper, but fresher and hence more nutrious.

But check with a nutrionist and dont keep food more that a couple of days three at the most because there no preservative in the stuff you process fresh so it has to be air tight

I'm all about fast and nutritious meals so what about for breakfast, waffles with sausage and fruit on the side; oatmeal, cereal with fruit, waffles with cream cheese and jelly on top, egg and cheese sandwich. Always include milk for their little bones!

For lunch and dinner I am pretty easy - a meat (chicken, turkey), a veggie (peas, green beans, corn, etc.), and fruit (apple slices, pineapples, bananas, applesauce, etc.) Milk to drink

Almost everything in the store is processed, so you have to watch out.

breakfast ideas: cereal, eggs, muffins, home made waffles/pancakes, oatmeal, applesauce, banana, oranges

Lunch: grill cheese with peeled apple or can fruit in lite syrup, mac & cheese, soup, left over supper

Supper: pork chops, meal loaf, shake & bake chicken, steak, chicken nuggets, steamed vegs, beaf stew, kielbasa, hot dogs and beans, BLTs.

My daughter has been eating most of this at age 6 months. hope this helps. Can throw fruit in a blender with some jucie of smoothies. Best of luck

Hi, I have the same problem but I've come up with a few.

1- buy the shred cheese and elbow macaroni. Boil the macaroni, drain, add the cheese, Voila: mac and cheese without all the extra crap the boxed kind has.

2- My friend gives her son soy burgers and garden burgers cut up. He loves them. My daughter tried one and liked it, but I haven't bought any yet. I tried them...they taste much better than they sound, and they can be microwaved.

3- PB& J of course

4- Try breakfast for lunch, or leftover dinner, you don't have to stick to the usual breakfast for breakfast routine, and it spices things up a bit.

5- Try a bunch of little foods. In the morning, if you get up before the baby (because this is the only way you'll probably find time to do it), cut up all kinds of food, cheese, banana wheels, apple slices, wheat crackers, avocade wedges, cheerios, anything relatively healthy you can think of. Throw it all in a muffin pan (who has time to bake with the pan anyway) and you have a nibble platter your munchkin can munch on.

6- Try food even you think is gross. I'm amazed at how much I was influencing her diet until I friend suggested this to me. They will eat a lot more than we think they will.

7- If your daughter is good with chewing etc. buy some tortilla soft wraps, you can throw just about anything into them and they make a quick snack or lunch. Fruit (buy frozen if you are too lazy to cut it up, that is what I do, and I don't think the nutritional value goes down too much) and cottage cheese, leftover taco meat etc. (try taco's by the way, my daughters personal favorite)

Good Luck.

I was having the same problem! Here is what I came up with from other suggestions on yahoo answers:

I make large quantities of things and then freeze them into little ziploc containers. I usually have 3 or 4 different items in there, so I can just throw one in her lunch for her to have at day care, or heat it up if we are home.

For Convenience

Frozen Potstickers, you can make several in advance and freeze them after you have browned and steamed them. They come in a lot of different flavors and my daughter loves them. If you can't find them at the regular grocery store, Whole Foods has them. A sneaky way to get in some veggies too.

Frozen mini-quiches (again a good way to sneak in some veggies)

Look through the appetizers in the freezer section, I often find spinach or brocoli appetizers with cheese that are good as well.

Major emergency foods in the freezer are chicken fingers and fish sticks... only if I am out of everything else

Things you can prepare at home in bulk and reheat later:

Homemade chicken soup, my daugher eats all of her carrots and mushrooms and always asks for more (send me an email for the recipe, if you want)

I make homemade mac and cheese (I have a 5 minute recipe) mixed with brocoli and peas

Penne and Vodka Sauce

Spaghetti and meatballs

Chicken saute with peanut dipping sauce

If I make a meal with a veggie, meat and carb I put it in one of the containers like a tv dinner

Pita with hummus, chicken and tomatoes if she is a brave eater

Yogurt and cheese.

Apples with Cheese (plain laughing cow cheese is great)

PB&J

Grapes

Bumps on a log: Celery with peanut butter and raisins (okay, they can't eat the celery, but they can eat the Peanut Butter off of it and in the process get used to the flavor of celery... and it takes a long time to eat, which can be a good thing sometimes) If they do manage to get a bite off, it comes off in small pieces because of the fibers and it usually also helps with her teething.

For dessert: pudding with little surprises mixed in: banana, a couple of crushed cookies, dried fruit, whatever you can think of

Hope you like some of the suggestions, I hope I can pick up a few more ideas from your question. Good luck

my daughter is 3yrs old and she loves

Wasa crackers sandwiches. I get out all the food and let her make her own.

This recipe never fails my daughter loves it and we have a great time making it together

Brown rice balls

2 cups cooked brown rice

1/2 cup grated Parmesan or Romano cheese

milk

bread crumbs

1-2 eggs

cooked Ham, chicken, or vegetable cut into about 1 inch pieces (my daughter likes Broccoli)

Mix cooked rice in a bowl with the cheese and egg (you want a consistency where you can make balls out of it) add extra egg if you need it

Roll the rice into balls about 3 inches in diameter

place a piece of cooked meat or vegetable into the center of the ball (meat or vegetable should be surrounded by rice)

dip in milk than roll in breadcrumbs

place on a baking sheet and bake at 350 for about 15 min

serve with marinara or plain

After they are baked you can freeze them.

my child is 1 and she likes the little entrees by Gerber. also buy a bag of frozen chicken and a bag of frozen fish. you can bake or grill both of these still frozen so it saves on prep time. add a grain of your choice a veggie/fruit and milk. there's a good meal

also a pot of spaghetti using ground turkey instead of ground beef goes a long way! kids that age like salad too, experiment with the dressing you use.

homemade banana bread can be substituted for cake.

buy some tortillas and make wraps instead of regular sandwiches. you can use deli meat, or shredded chicken in them.

no hot dogs, corn dogs or yucky stuff like that. soup is always a winner. grilled cheese, meatballs, i can go for days. go to foodtv.com to look for kid friendly menus as well.

good luck and don't get discouraged, feeding them is the easy part!

You can always boil veggies and use a food mill, which can be found at a hardware store. You can also buy frozen veggies. Also, avocado is an ideal food for toddlers.

So.... i need a good recipe?

as a consumer science project, we have to plan a day at preschool and make a snack. We have to come up with a theme, my theme is construction and fixing. So i need a recipe that relates to my theme, it has to atract to toddlers. And it can be fun or healthy.

Additional Details

i cant make it with them and i need a full recipe

We used to let the kids in my son's preschool "build" with graham crackers spread with cream cheese.

How about s'mores? The recipe is 2 graham crackers, 1 piece of chocolate (hershey's bar broken up into squares), and 1 marshmallow. First cracker on bottom, then piece of chocolate, then marshmallow, then top cracker. These are usually heated to melt the chocolate and marshmallow but I like them just fine without heating. Just show the kids how to "build" their snack! Yummy!

They can "build" a flat house:

use some graham crackers, peanut butter, and m and ms!

They can make windows from twizzlers or marshmallows.

This is a tried and true recipe! Enjoy!

Construction- You can construct graham cracker houses. Have frosting. Make your own because you can control the consistency. Have graham crackers, pretzels and so on. Bring chex cereal, cheerios, etc. to decorate houses. LImit the candy because the frosting is sweet.

Toddler ages will be messy. So allowing the children to have hands on activity and exploration with the materials is most important.

as healthy eating is all important, what about fruit kebabs? you can prepare different fruits in advance and let them thread them on to kebab sticks and name them as they do so (many may not recognise them in their whole form, nevermind in pieces, so a good learning exercise too!)

I'm sure you'll find that toddlers will enjoy anything that involves making and getting stuck in, so avoid anything complicated and let them just enjoy the different textures, develop the dexterity to thread them on to a stick, and experiencing new tastes.

have fun!

Ants on a Log

Celery sticks

Fill the groove with peanut butter

Place raisins in the peanut butter

How about lady bugs. Either they will like them or love them. Take an apple cut it in half, then take a raisin spread peanut butter on it and stick it to the apple. They are fun to make and healthy for the kids.

Healthy foods for a toddler?

My son is 2 and has been quite picky lately at dinner. I need to get more veggies and meat into him. He will eat fruit all day if I let him and he doesn't eat junk food. He just really REALLY likes carbs! He will eat his pasta or potato and bread and then not anything else.

Any foods/recipes that your toddler loves? I am primarily interested in meats and veggies but am also open to other ideas.

I am also going to try to give him his dinner plate with no carbs and see what he eats of that first and then give him a small portion of our starch a few minutes later. Has anyone else done this? Did it help?

Thanks!!

How about putting peanut butter on the bread, for protein and fat.

Thankfully both of my sons eat a balanced diet. As for meats, how about chicken parm or even a hamburger made out of ground turkey?

Veggies, we usually by the cans, because lately the grocery store has been lacking in produce. But maybe you could give him a potato with broccoli mixed in it? Or veggies with something to dip them in, whether that be cheese or ranch dressing.

Good luck hun!

Have you tried giving your son some kind of condiment to dip veggies in? My kid, he loves to dip carrot sticks, celery, whatever into a light, fat-free ranch dressing. He'll eat anything as long as there's something to dip it into! Also, you can try mixing veggies into pasta sauce. I've also done this with mushrooms and zuchinni before. He has no idea they're even in there! Hope that helps.

this is an article i read today about ways to sneak in veggies into a kid's meal

hope it helps

http://lifestyle.msn.com/foodandentertaining/recipes/articleew.aspx?cp-documentid=5335131&GT1=10446

My son LOVES pasta. He will eat mac and cheese with peas and tuna fish in it (It is actually really good that way). My mom always adds zuccini to her spaghetti sauce. You can't taste it, but it is added veggies. Make him a tuna sandwich or a grilled cheese and tomato soup. Make a homemade veggie beef soup in the crockpot and freeze the leftovers in small containers for his lunches.

try making zuchini bread, smash squash/zuchini/broccoli into rice and add velveeta. My son did not eat meat until he was 2 - you find other proteins. Look into beans, they're small and fun to play with - let him play with his food a little, especially if it gets him to eat it - peas are always FUN too!

i sneak good veggies like broccoli and peppers and things onto pizza and my kids don't even know the difference ... that should help with veggies. also, my kids love dipping broccoli into ranch dressing, they call it "snow on the trees". my kids won't eat much meat at dinner time either, just cold cuts. i put sliced turkey on their grilled cheese sandwich and they don't even know.

How about butternut squash? It's a vegetable with lots of good nutrients, it's sweet and smooshy like mash potatoes. It is also easy to make.

For meats, since your son likes fruits, have you tried taking ground turkey and mixing it with cooked apples, or chicken-apple or chicken apricot. Try to make the meats really soft.

In need of healthy toddler lunch recipes!?

Can anyone recommend some healthy lunch recipes or menus for toddlers? They need to be on-the-go lunches.

It would be a bonus if my husband and I would happily chow down on the meals as well, but not necessary.

Can anyone recommend any recipes or websites?

Many thanks!

I'd say, limit the nuggets and luncheables. They are loaded with preservitives, and chemicals, that have been undoubtedly linked to the rise of ADHD/ADD in children. Lunch doesn't have to be "typical".... it just needs to be balanced.... Graham crackers and peanut butter, celery and peanut butter (raisins on them as well if you want), carrots and other veggies with dip, crackers and cream cheese...... take a look at the food pyramid, and become familiar with a "balanced" meal.... your baby doesn't have to have "soup and sandwich" for lunch nessecarily.... just a variety of nibbles, that whack out all the food groups... hope this works for ya! oh yeah.... and most of these things can be prepared, and kept in ziplocs for up to a week... so you really only need to prepare them twice a week or so....

theres this book by jessica sienfield thats called 'deceptively delicious" and I recently started cooking from it I really love all the recipies because they are both kid and adult friendly, they are super healthy, using veggies everywhere, and are also packable!! try it out.....it doesn't matter if you aren't much of a cook all you do is follow the directions......its way better quality food than you will ever get your family will love the taste and with a little extra planning can be toatlly convient.

The website wholesometoddlerfood.com has some good recipe. I suggest making big batches of homemade chicken nuggets, pancakes, and cheese sauce for pasta. Just freeze them in freezer bags and warm them up for lunches. They are much healthier than the ones you buy at the store and are great for a quick lunch. I also make...

-quesadilla (whole wheat tortilla, cheese, spinach)

-PBJ or PB with honey

-Leftovers from the night before

-Scrambled eggs and toast

-Baked sweet potato fries

-whole wheat egg noodles with butter, Parmesan cheese, and asparagus

for when we are on the go, i like the lunchables jrs. They have cheese, ham, and crackers.

my son's typical lunch is a sandwich [pb&j, cheese, ham, etc.], grapes or one of those individual fruit cups/applesauce.

Also, if you are feeling "blah", stock up on frozen chicken nuggets! My son LOVES them, and they take less than 2 minutes to microwave.

I like the idea about lunchables for an around town not wanting them to eat Wendy's alternitive. I tend to feed my boys gerber graduate meals if I have nothing avail for them.

sandwich with meat and cheese

crackers

chips

veggies

and a cookie

Is my one year old getting enough nutrients?

Just looking for a little advice. My 14 month old son has always been a FABULOUS eater. He usually eats anything I give him. But the last 2 weeks or so, it's changed. He is suddenly pushing certain foods away and refusing ALL vegetable whatsoever. Is this typical toddler behavior?? As a heavier mom, I am very conscious of what I feed my son. I don't want him to have the same struggles as me so I offer him healthy foods instead of junk! Of course he gets the occasional treat--but his nutrition is very important to me. I'm worried that he is not getting enough veggies in his diet. I have been sneaking some veggies in using my Deceptively Delicious recipes....and I let him have one serving of V8 Fusion juice a day. Is this all I can do? Every lunch and dinner I offer him a vegetable. He will eat a few SMALL, SMALL bites and then he is done. Is this enough?? Any other tricks any moms could offer me? Any nutrition experts out there that can calm my fears that my son isn't not getting enough nutrients?

There's a book out there on how to disguise veggies into food so kids don't know they're there. I can't remember the name of it, but I do remember the lady used a blender to liquify butternut squash. She mixed it in with the cheese for mac and cheese. Said her kids loved it!

I found the book

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000UZNREG/mahatanet-22/ref=nosim/

IT's normal kid behavior. My son is 21 months old and has gone thru those stages before too. He used to practically ONLY eat meat, ribs, chicken, you name it. Now, he wont even touch meat and will only eat veggies. For a while he only wanted potatoes. Kids know what their body needs and they crave it, or dont want it. (lol, aside from candy of course!!). I also do not give my son hardly any junk food and work hard at giving him variety. Just keep offering it, but dont make a big deal out of it. He'll eat them when he's ready to again. He is still young and doesnt need as much as we think they do.

Toddler food menu?

I'm trying to get some healthy ideas for feeding my two year old daughter. I'm not much of a cook and it seems all the "convienent" kid-friendly foods in the supermarket are so unhealthy (big suprise). I find myself feeding her a lot of the same things. I know she must be bored with her lunches. Just wondering if anyone knows some simple recipes that will give her some variety and are a little more nutritious.

I know what you mean. We've tried some egg casseroles and had luck, and put things in there like red peppers. We're also finding whole wheat or veggie noodles work, and pizza with whole wheat crust and turkey meatballs - they also like the turkey meatballs plain. We were also pleasantly suprised they liked creamed spinach - while fatty - at least they're eating the spinach. Our kids dont like much other meat, but do really like seafood, especially shrimp. Now to get them to try salmon - may try to find a recipe with something sweet on it.

Also look for things like real maple syrup and yogurt - without the high fructose sugar.

My daughter loves EVERYTHING. I spend a lot of money on the vitamin loaded foods, and "Pediasure" drinks for her in between meals, and before bed. I've noticed that after giving her this change of diet, her energy level has gone 500% up, and she's become more active on learning abilities as well. When it comes to babys, you really do get what you pay for. I am lucky to have a more than decent job that allows me to spend more money on the expensive food, but that doesn't mean the bagged vegitables are any less healthy. Stick to the basics as much as you can. give her things like peas on a plate, cut carrots, and other small things. If you want to only feed her cooked meals, make sure they are low on grease, and sugars. They should get enough natural sugars from all foods, and the grease isn't good for their bodies. fixing food for my 14 month is probably my favorite thing to do on my days off. I just hope she doesn't get too spoiled hehe.

remember the show zoom that we all used to watch as kids??? go to zoom.pbs.org and click on cafe zoom i have found excellent recipes for my kids on there and they are heathy and extremly easy.

You could lower the salt, the oil and the sugar in everything you normally eat provided you eat balanced meals

Take the jars from the gerber, food process to a mush and label those meals and stick em in the fridge thell keep for a few dayS with no preservative.

Add the seasoning to your own meals while on your plate versus in the pan or whatever. You can mush your own apple banna combination, steamed yams, potatoes, fish mush, beef mush, whatever you want to mush......CREAM OF WHEAT

THIS CAN GIVE HER A LOT OF VARIETY AND A LOT MORE NUTRITION

CONSULT WITH A NUTRITIONIST though on whats mushable to be certain

Does your toddler do this? eating?

For the last 2 weeks we can hardly get my 2 year old to eat!!

When he does ask for food, we give it to him and then he doesn't eat it!!! I don't know what to do!!! He isn't looseing any weight!! And he is soo picky, that there is not much he will eat!! I have tried to give him different kinds of food and he dosen't eat them! He has gone for a full day with out eating because he wouldn't eat what I gave him!!!

Any ideas? Recipes that even the pickest child will eat?? Let me know!! His Dr. says that he is healthy!

Just let him be and he will come around.

My daughter went through the same thing - I just didn't offer her any food till she asked for it, and then I would just take her to the fridge and let her choose. Make sure you stock up on kid-friendly foods.

It is normal. My little girl did it and now I can't get her to stop eating. If you are still real worried about it they have Pedisure you can give him. Its a drink for kids that will not eat.

I was reading your question and thought you were reading my mind (LOL). My daughter will be 2 years old in May and she is going through this weird phase were she isn't eating much either. She'll eat breakfast, a little (barely that) of lunch and hardly any dinner. She'll eat her vegetables on the plate, but over the past 4 days she won't eat her entree. I can't figure it out. Last night, I made broccoli quiche cause she loves eggs, cheese and broccoli. Figuring she'll love it and needs her protein (she won't eat ANY meat) she pushed that aside. So, I know were your coming from. What I've been doing is my best to give her foods she loves and if she don't eat that then ask her what she does want. She had no problem telling me cheerios and cheese. So, I gave her those.

I think maybe your son is getting to the age that they can distinguish what they like and dislike with food. They are also more independent and can communicate now what they want and don't want. Your son will eat. Toddlers don't starve themselves on purpose. He will eventually nourish himself. In the meantime, experiment with foods and have a back-up meal in mind in case he won't eat his dinner. Try to give him enough protein, calcium, etc. Those things he needs in foods you know he likes. Perhaps he's not feeling too good lately and his appetite isn't quite on track. Just do your best and as long as he is healthy and at a good weight according to the doctor, then don't worry. He'll start eating normally again sooner than later.

Your not alone---besides, it shows your a good parent when you are concerned about these things :)

yeah all 3 of my kids did this also about the age of 2 give it some time and you wont get him to stop eating till then feed him what ever it is that he'll eat my 3 year old ate nothing but bread with butter for 2 moths, it will pass and if you want to I'M me or me mail me at motherraven23@yahoo.com i have tons of recipes for picky eaters. i got one 1 kid who eats no meat, 1 that only eats meat and potato's, and one that eats no cabs but beans so i know what your felling and some good tips and things like that hope to hear from you

My toddler is just at picky. (As was his brother). They'll eat when they are hungry. Just continue to offer a variety of good foods and he'll eat when his body needs it.

Another thought - is he drinking too much milk or juice? Even on days when my toddler eats little, he's drinking a ton of milk.

I think everyone goes through this with thier kids. My son does it to. and he will also drink tons of liquid too. You have gotten some really good advice here the pediasure drinks are great! Let him choose for a while, but one thing I have not heard said yet is have you checked his teeth he may be working on some molars and it may be too painfull to eat. Hope this helps

Yes my kid does the same. My wife worries about it a lot. I have noticed that sometimes he goes on a binge and pigs out though. Like growing spurts. He is skinny but healthy. We generally have him eat a couple bites then let him go.

let him eat when he wants do force him but leave the food on the table for awhile he will come around i always gave my picky eater toast, crakers, or pedasure drinks in funky cups or a cup with his favorite cartoon on it that way i always knew he was getting something good in him for the day hope it helps

Ley him eat what ever he wants as long as it's not candy

Chips oat meal cookies, bread, crackers, vitamins

take away half of his milk intake and give juice or water ,vitamins are great if you can get them to take them, i have 5 grandbabys they have all done the same thing, not eating to the point of your waiting on child abuse to so up,(ha!ha!) then all at once they eat the house down, try making shapes with there food, mickey mouse pancakes, star grill cheese, etc, he is in the spurt stage and he will start up on his own,

you need to read the book on Super Nanny trust me it works it will help you out alot.

As long as your child is healthy and not losing any weight, then you don't have anything to worry about. Just don't give him anything until he asks. And, for now, just give him what he wants to eat (unless its candy or a whole bunch of junk food). That's better than having him not eat at all.

My daughter will be two in two weeks and is going through the SAME thing! The only thing that has worked for us is to cut back on some of her drink during the day and cut back on afternoon snack. She would drink milk all day, but I couldn't get her to eat ANYTHING. Now she drinks some juice and very little milk - fills her little tummy up! She only gets milk with breakfast and right before bedtime.

I have an older daughter who went through this too. I brought it up to the dr and he said as long as she was still growing she would eat when she was ready. And she did. Hopefully baby sis will do the same thing :-)

All kids do this. They will never starve themselves. Their bodies are much more efficient at stroing and burning calories. If it doesn't turn in to a helath realted concern, losing weight getting sick something else might be the cause. Sometimes toddlers with scid reflux don't want to eat.

MY SON DOES THE SAME EXACT THING. HE JUST TURNED TWO IN JANUARY. HE USED TO LOVE FRENCH FRIES. BUT NOW HE DOESN'T WANT TO EAT ANYTHING. I THINK THAT HE MIGHT LIKE CHICKEN POT PIES. LUNCHABLES. AND THE DANIMALS YOGURT DRINKS.BECAUSE MY SON DOESNT LIKE MILK. INSTEAD OF MAKING MEATLOAF MAKE MEAT BALLS FOR HIM. PIZZA.

GOOD LUCK

My eldest boy was just like this when he was about the same age. Nearly drove me up the wall and worried me to death. What will happen is one day he will decide to eat and 'hey presto' he will have a growth spurt.

My son still goes through phases of eating very little. but he is fine and will always ask for food if he is hungry. I would recommend doing meals for him anyway, but make them very small and don't badger him too much if he does not eat it. Get him to sit at the table with you while you eat and when you are done he can get down. I do this even now, we eat TOGETHER, actually can be quite effective if the child is just being moody.

So have some routine in meal times and don't pressurise him too much and it will turn around soon enough.

Good luck.

My kids did the same thing. The doctor basically said, if they are hungry enough, they will eat. As long as they appear healthy, don't worry so much!!

Cooking for the family...?

Does anybody know of good websites that have fast & easy recipes suitable for the whole family- parents & child of toddler age? I would love to start cooking healthier food for us but finding the time is very difficult! thanks in advance

Rachel Ray's Yum-o non-profit web has some really good ideas. It is mostly for kids but there are some great recipes that the whole fam will love.

http://www.yum-o.org/index.php

At foodnetwork.com there is the section cooking with Kids.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/lf_kids/...

Then you can always find good meal ideas at www.allrecipes.com and food.yahoo.com

Those are the ones that I use the most when I am cooking for the whole fam, honestly whole wheat pasta, salad, & some tuscan sides are the quickest & easiest for me. Or a cassarole with some sides, there are some rally great & healthy recipes out there now, that are still very quick & easy to throw together.

I second Philsbury, and then Kraft too!!

Good Luck!

Try this;

Bread Fritters;

Go to the bakery section of the store where you normally buy bread.

Ask the baker for an "unbaked" loaf of bread.

He must put exactly the same amount of dough he would have used to bake a bread with in to a plastic bag for you, and it would cost no more than a loaf of bread.

Take that home and in a pot warm some cooking oil to about half the depth of the pot. (Smaller pots take less oil than bigger ones do)...

The oil temperature should be medium hot. (About half the heat that the stove plate will go)

Now cut from the unbaked dough a slice about the size of your palm, and with a little water on your fingers (to prevent the dough from sticking to your hand), stretch out the dough in all directions until it is about the size of your whole hand including the fingers. That brings the cutting of dough to about twice the size it was when you cut it....

Now with care, drop the stretched out dough in to the hot oil.

It would rise almost instantly.

Fry it in the oil until it is golden brown all over, taking care to turn it over occasionally.

It would be puffy and crisp when done.

With a large ladle or sieve, scoop out the bread fritter and place on an absorbent kitchen towel to rid it of most of the oil still on it.

Repeat this process until all the dough is done.

These bread fritters are extremely filling, and can be cut open and filled with almost anything from grated cheese to mince to poloni or jam.

Try it, you will probably have some left over for two or three days, which your man can take to work if he likes....

Bread fritters can be frozen and warmed up again if you have made too much, but the dough cannot, so rather make the whole lot and freeze what is left over for another day.

Here at home I have a set menu I follow when the kids are home, and Wednesdays are always bread fritter days. My family looks forward to this mid week treat.

Love Curtis on TLC for a family w kids he would lay out fresh veggies broccoli, carrots, corn etc,Buy pastry dough in frozen food isle and some cream of chicken soup mixed w little milk.

He would let the kids put in the veggies ,added the cream of chicken and lay the pastry on top and let them cut out their initials on the top or smiley face so they could tell which one they put the veggies in.

great way of getting them to eat veggies!!

i don't really know sites, but here's something.

Go for some stacks, eg... Mashed potato on the bottom, spinich cooked with some soy sauce, buttered beans, what ever meat you want, and some nice sauce... it's simple and quick. And for the babies, this is what my mother used to do and so do i, what ever you have, (eg. steamed veges and lamb) just pure it. it's so simple and it's fresh and easy to eat.

kraftfoods.com

I use that to find my recipes and my parents and sisters thinks there all really good. Also they have the nutrition info right for every recipe. and there really easy to make.

Pillsbury. I get LOADS of great recipes from them. They even email me new recipes, all the time.

One of the best things I've found is Rachael Ray's recipes on the Food Network website. They're fast, easy, and usually pretty healthy.

Good luck!

What does your 10-30 month old eat?

I like to think that my 14 month old eats fairly healthy, but I;m not going to lie and pretend that she doesn't occasionally have a snack or meal that's not 100% nutritious. However, I can't help but shudder as I see toddlers being pushed around in strollers eating a bag of cheetos or chips and a big bottle of Kool-aid! That's nothing but sugar, sodium, and fat, and they're not even walking off the calories!

I also don't think its right to deny your little one special treats and snacks like ice cream now and then. Its not gonna kill them. I'm curious to see what your kids (around 10-30 months but it doesn't really matter) eat! Be as brief or long winded as you like. Here's a sample of my 14 month old's menu:

Breakfast

Sliced bananas with wheat germ

Multi grain waffles

Canned fruit

Multi-grain cheerios, regular cheerios, other cereal

A whole apple, peeled

Sliced fruit to dip in yogurt

Graduates cereal bars

Scrambled eggs

Lunch or Dinner

Baked sweet potato

Baked pork chops

Mashed potatos

Steamed mixed veggies (peas, carrots, corn, butternut squash, green beans, lima beans)

Corn tortillas and refried beans

Chicken breast, sliced, breaded, and baked (a healthier alternative to chicken nuggets) to dip in ketchup, BBQ,

or marinara sauce

Wholewheat pasta (chopped spaghetti, or small shapes like penne and wagon wheels to pick up) in sauce with mini

meatballs (ground beef or lean ground turkey)

Rice and steamed veggies in a cheesy sauce

Corn on the cob (lots of fun!)

Gerber and Beechnut microwave meals for when you just don't have time

Turkey w/ mustard, tuna, Simply JIF Peanut Butter & Jelly, sandwiches on multigrain bread cut into quarters

Breadsticks to dip in marinara sauce

Avocado

Plain oatmeal with a little bit of brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and granola (no raisins,

they're a choking hazard)

Breaded chicken breast stuffed with mozarella and spinach and baked

Slow-cooked pork shoulder, pulled into strips. This is very easy to eat and can be used for so many recipes

such as sandwiches or seasoned mexican style on corn tortillas with guacamole.

Flank steak roasted in the oven with veggies, potatos, and mushrooms

Snacks

Fruit to dip in yogurt

Kashi TLC multigrain veggie crackers

Kashi TLC multigrain cookies or cereal bars

Quakers mini rice cakes (cheddar or apple cinnamon flavor)

Low fat string cheese

Lunchables JR. (comes with crackers, turkey, and mozzarella)

Prunes (Be very careful not to eat too many! One a day is enough, but they have wonderful health properties)

Instead of ice cream, try frozen yogurt

Beverage

Rice milk

Danimals yogurt drinks

Milk, a little nesquick powder, and a banana mixed in a blender (you can also add cheerios!)

Orange juice, mixed fruit juice, or Juicy Juice Harvest Surprise fruit juice with carrot juice + 50% water

Chamomile tea sweetened with orange juice instead of sugar and watered down (great for bed time!)

Peppermint, lemon, and other herbal teas (make sure that they are normal herbs that are safe!)

Hopefully we can get ideas and learn from each other!

My son eats pretty healthy as well, but I allow him treats occasionally. He is 18 months old. He is allowed whole milk with meals and water in between but no juice. He has always been a good eater and eats a large variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc. The only thing he isn't doing well with right now is meat. Sometimes he is ok with it, others he is not. I try to choose healthy snacks. I am not as concerned with calories as I am artificial ingredients, flavorings and corn syrup. I try to choose snacks without those things. He is a tall skinny kid so I don't give him reduced fat anything at this time. My pediatrician did not recommend it due to high sodium content in light dairy, etc. So for now he gets regular cheese, milk, yogurt.

bugs and spiders...lol..my daughter is 12 months and shes practically eating everything i eat..much smaller portions...she really enjoys it!

my son eats what ever i eat he is 19 months old his weight is about 30lbs and he is 33 inches tall i think most people worry needlessly about what their child eats i think as long as they are active you should not have a to worry about what they eat

Toddler and baby food ideas?

I have a 2 yr old daughter and a 6 month old son and need some new recipe ideas that both can eat!

My eldest eats anything but my youngest is on jars and babyrice at the mo but only at dinner time and I want to start putting him onto our food (blended of course) but i am finding it really hard to come up with new ideas and were all getting bored of the ones we have now.

Would be very grateful if anyone could give me some healthy options and how to make and ingredients for food that is suitable for both to eat.

Thanks!

By the way were not vegetarians so we do eat meat.

Heres a good site with some useful articles on toddlers. http://my-toddler.com

Apple Puree: For Baby and Family

Apples are a great first food because of their sweetness and versatility. Besides being for baby, this puree can be used in all kinds of recipes. Use it to sweeten baked goods, as a topping for pancakes, or even to dress up grilled meats.

Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, and Fuji apples have the least amount of acid, and thus are the most tolerable for babies. You can peel apples before or after cooking. Cooking with skins on allows the fruit to retain more nutrients.

Makes four 1/2-cup servings

6 medium Red Delicious apples, washed, quartered, and cored just before cooking

Steamer method:

Place prepared apples in steamer basket set in a pot filled with 1 to 2 inches of lightly boiling water. Do not let water touch fruit. Cover tightly for best nutrient retention and steam for 10 to 12 minutes or until apples are tender. Apples should pierce easily with a toothpick. Set apples and cooking liquid aside to cool.

Scrape apples to remove skin and puree in a food processor with a steel blade. Add tablespoons of reserved cooking liquid to puree to make smoother and adjust consistency.

Microwave method:

Place prepared apple quarters in microwave-safe dish. Add 1/4 cup water and cover tightly, allowing a corner to vent. Microwave on high for 3 minutes and stir. Re-cover and cook for 3 to 6 minutes or until tender. Check for doneness, cool, and proceed with recipe above.

my 1 yr old cousin loves chicken soup, either from a can or homemade. he also loves ravioli, spaghetti, and any type of pasta. chicken can be dry, but it depends on the kid and the way you make it. my cousin likes chicken nuggets, though. you could also put a roast on the crockpot and make that up with some mashed potatoes. my cousin will eat almost everything we eat. so, if you're having something one night for dinner, i'm sure your kids would be able to eat it.

Mashed rice and soft chicken.

Yams and Squash have always been my favorite and still arm. My mum also used to give me raspberries in very small amounts but not until I was 2. Another big hit in our family is cucumbers. For the 6 month old peel them before you blend it. Bananas are good too

I think what you're looking for is in this free ebook. It's a compilation of 490 award winning recipes and a free easy download.

Baked sweet potatoes

Take sweet potatoes and scrub the skins clean. Slice sweet potatoes into strips about 1 cm X 1cm (and as long or short as you want). Leave skins on. For the older one, you can also baste with butter and sprinkle with allspice or cinnamon. For the younger one, you can leave them plain. Put on a cookie sheet and bake for about 30 minutes at 375 degrees. They should be soft. You will probably want to mash them up for the six month old, and don't give her the skin. Enjoy!

Cream of wheat is a great breakfast food for almost all ages. Youre 6 month old can have his mixed with formula or breastmilk, and the rest of the family can dress it up any way -you like -- fruit, syrup, brown sugar etc. It's like oatmeal that is good for infants!

Creamy soups may work for lunches, just start slow and see how he handles them.

For one thing your 6 month old is not ready for table food yet. keep him on the rice and formula. The last line you wrote said you are "not vegetarians" which means you do eat meat but then you say you do not eat meat?
